Three of our favorite beaches are a few minutes from Green Gates, including our top pick (shown here). Our welcome book directs you to all of them, as part of our exclusive insider’s guide to Cape Cod’s quiet north shore. It’ll be on the kitchen table when you arrive.

Cape Cod is full of freshwater ponds, and this one is a favorite with locals wanting to take a dip on balmy evenings. Perfect for splashing with little ones or paddling with older kids. It’s an easy bike ride from Green Gates.

Biking & Jogging

Right outside our back door, wind your way down a particularly beautiful Old Cape road past incredible marsh views, including this one. It’s a wonderful bicycle ride, or the perfect morning jog. For more off-road adventure, the Dennis Bike Trail (seven miles away) is a great choice.

Kayaking & Sailing

Got a kayak or sailboat? Dip in at the “way to water” a little further down our street, and paddle or sail through marshes and out into beautiful Barnstable Harbor. Boats and advanced paddlers can cross the harbor to Sandy Neck and explore remote stretches of the spectacular seven-mile-long barrier beach that protects the 4,000-acre Great Marsh, ending with the impossibly picturesque village and old lighthouse at Beach Point.

A wonderful old bridge sits at the end of our street, and is a favorite for local kids to both fish and, at high tide, dive in. Charter fishing tours are available from nearby Barnstable Harbor, where striped bass and bluefish are common (and delicious).

Summer is prime blue crab season, and Crab Creek (eight minutes away) is a prime spot. Bring bait, string, and a net. With some luck you’ll be making good use of our lobster pots that night!

Whale Watching

Top-rated whale watches depart regularly from nearby Barnstable Harbor, less than three miles away.

Nature Cruising

An excellent naturalist-led eco-tour also departs regularly from Barnstable Harbor. Highly recommended, especially at sunset!

Right outside our front door is Cape Cod’s oldest two-lane road, which runs the entire length of Cape Cod and weaves from village to village, past beautiful views, boutique shops and endless antique stores. Hyannis is just seven minutes away when you need to stock up on supplies.

Open-air yoga classes take place most Thursday mornings at the Yarmouth Port Green, right across the street from Green Gates. All are welcome, and it’s free!
